What Do You Need

Posted on July 23, 2014

It’s nearly a year since I began pursuing writing as one of my life’s purposes. From a micro perspective a year seems like a long time. There have been almost 365 days of writing, or thinking about writing, or talking about writing consuming me. Many times I felt buried in the trenches of my work, unable to see the forest through the trees. But from a macro perspective–looking back with clarity and a bit more vision–a year is not long at all. This is why I’m quite amazed at all God has orchestrated in such a short time frame.

In my first post I shared how at eight-years-old, without any clear sense of direction, I believed I would positively impact the world. I never imagined my writing could be the conduit through which I make an impact or that my work would touch continents I have yet to visit. Writing has given me license to connect with so many wonderful people from around the globe. Emails everywhere from South Africa to the Philippines come into my inbox and many of those connections have formed into friendships. To say I am both awed and humbled would be quite the understatement. It feels appropriate to stop here and thank each of you for joining me on this ride of growth, discovery, healing, love, redemption and purpose. I know there is still a lot for me to learn as a young artist, because of that I’m diligently working to mature in my craft.

You may have noticed over the last few months the frequency of my posts slowed down. I took time away to think about the kind of writer I want to be; more importantly I needed to give careful consideration to the way the words I pen impact each of you–my dear friends and readers. The last few months and the down time have allowed me to emerge a more thoughtful writer and I have a better idea of where I want this all to go. One of my heart’s desire is to continue to use my writing to impact this world, not for the fame or fortune, but to penetrate a culture inundated with mediocrity, cynicism, and negativity.

When I developed this site I wanted to create a space where we could become together. So, as much as this is my platform, pieces of it belong to you too. By reading my work and stepping into my world, you have allowed me to step into yours and for that I am immensely grateful. I have some really exciting essays I’m working on that I can’t wait to share, but before I do I want to know: What do you need?

What I mean is: As we continue to grow on this journey together what things would you like to read about and what do you need to help you move closer to your purpose? I’d like you to share it with me. If your need is something I can’t provide through my writing share it anyway. It’s possible I can connect you to where you can get what your looking for.

Will you please take a moment to leave a comment below, or shoot me an email? Tell me what you need. Perhaps in sharing we’ll all get a little closer to our dreams.
